SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 WOLF  DEN MEETING

Paper, crayons out for boys to do  puzzles/draw till meeting start
SUPPLIES: Paper; crayons; puzzles. John will  bring.

7 p.m.
1) Meeting  Opening
: John. Pledge; Promise; Law; and  Blessing

2) Tell and Share: John

  • Ask boys if there is  anything they want to shore with their Cub buddies.
  • Have them raise hands to speak. Remind others that it  shows respect to listen when someone else is speaking.
  •

3) Recognize Den members who attended Parish Cleanup  and Belt Loop Frenzy. Popcorn.

4) Split Den into new Cubs and older Cubs for  activity
(Wolves 2) New Cubs: Hunter H., Hunter O.,  Parker, Tyler, Dakota, Rowen and Kendarius.
(Wolves 1)  Returning Cubs:
Brennan, Alessandro, James, Silas, Billy, Sasha and Davis.

5) Den Flags activity.
Elective  12e: Make a stencil pattern. Trace each boy’s hand on cardstock (or heavy paper) and make a stencil. Then trace the pattern on a square of  yellow-gold felt. Have each boy cut out his  handprint and put his name on the back of it. This will be used for the den  flag. At a later time, a volunteer will use fabric pain to put names on front, and stitch the  pattern on the flag. (BTW, at their Arrow of Light Award ceremony,  when the boys are in fifth grade, the handprints will be removed from the den  flag and each boy will present his print to his parents. So DO NOT glue the hand  to the flag. Pin it for now, and then we’ll have the boys sew it at a future  meeting. Sewing is actually an activity they need to do for the Wolf Badge.)

6) U.S. Flag Folding/Info for Requirement 2g
Do flag-folding requirement from book. Encourage Cubs and parents to complete all Requirement 2  activities at home before next meeting.

7:30-40 appox.

OVER UNDER”
Wolves 1 and Wolves 2 make  up two teams.
Each team gets in single-file line facing the guy in front of  him.
First Cub gets a ball and has to pass it over his head to cub behind  him. Next Cub has to pass it through his legs to Cub behind him; next Cub over,  next under.
When it gets to the last Cub, he runs to front of the line and  starts process again.
Team wins when the original first Cub is back to the  front with the ball.

If raining, then do other Requirements from 2g and

 8 p.m.
 9)Closing.

Belt Loop Frenzy Directions

August 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Parents,

Here’s the best directions I can find to the Belt Loop Frenzy at Bolin Park in Canton, Saturday, Sept. 6.

To get to Bolin Park, go up 575 to Exit 16. Bear left onto 20/5/140 West. Got a half mile and take a right onto Marietta Highway. I believe it is the second signed entrance to Bolin Park. Take left. Then go all the way back to the back of the park.

It’s right across the street from Progressive Skate Park, and just south of Cherokee High School.

Also, St. Michael’s Parish is having a Parish Clean Up Day on that Saturday. if you can go there first, drop by between 9-10 a.m. before you go to the Belt Loop Frenzy.

Have fun!

WOW!

August 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What a great bunch of boys we have in the Wolf Den!

Let’s see, there are the returning Cubs: Brennan, Silas, James, Mark, Davis and Alessandro. And we have new members who showed up Tuesday to be a part of the den. New members at the Den Meeting were the two Hunters, Parker, Dakota and Tyler! Fantastic!

We’ll meet again next Tuesday, same time, same place for more Wolf Den Fun!

In the meantime, the new boys should strive to earn their Bobcat Badge. There are eight requirements and parents need to help them with each, to get the ball rolling.

Boys who already have their Bobcat and Tiger Badges should start working on their 12 Achievements so they can earn the Wolf Badge, as well as beads and Arrow Points. Go get ‘em! Everyone — the new Cubs and returning Cubs — will soon be all on the same level with a little elbow grease. BTW, new Cubs do not have to earn the Tiger Rank; they can go from Bobcat straight to Wolf!

Parents, go get that Wolf Handbook and read it, please. It’s the first step to understanding all this Scout mambo-jumbo that I keep dumping on you. It all makes sense, trust me.

Parents, please feel free to leave questions here on this blog, or e-mail me or my wife, Joanie, at geigersinga@comcast.net. Or call us at 770-693-0730.

By the way, I am expecting another four boys to show up at the next meeting, which means we really have to start a second Wolf den, and that’s good news! Scouting is a great way for a boy to make new friends, learn positive values and increase self confidence through recognition of achievements. The more boys who want to be Scouts, the larger our Pack grows and the more boys will have the opportunity to start a great journey that never really ends. Is it possible that they could all be Eagle Scouts someday? Yes, it is.

Just a note, information on the Belt Loop Frenzy, Scout Day at Turner field and other events are in previous blogs below.

Parents, I’d also like your feedback regarding the first Den Meeting and if it was what you expected.

Talk to you soon!

We had a great den meeting last night. Joe the Eagle Scout had some great words of advice and encouragement for the Wolf Cubs.

The Lamppost skit was a lot of fun.

Next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 19 at St. Michael’s Parish Hall.

Here are a few photos from the meeting. Click to enlarge…

We’ve got a football player and Eagle Scout talking to the den, big news about the Atlanta Braves, exciting stuff about earning the Wolf Badge and — of course — lots of play time and games.

7 p.m., church conference room, St. Mike’s tonight!

Den Leader Note: Bring a football if you have one.

Scouts March For Braves!

August 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Scout Day at the Atlanta Braves is Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $6 a person. The Braves take on the N.Y. Mets.

This is a great event on many levels, but probably the best thing is that the Scouts will participate in a parade around Turner Field before the game starts. The boys must wear their Class A uniforms to participate.

We will be discussing this activity at the Monday, Aug. 11 committee meeting. I’ll have more information at Tuesday’s den meeting.

August 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just a reminder that we’re planning a great Den Meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 12 in the classroom area at St. Michael’s. Class B uniforms are fine, but if you would like to show off your new Wolf Class A, that’s just great, too! See you there!
